Northwest Montana Fly Fishing at it's Best

Equipment List

What to Bring?

Ideally you should have two separate outfits set up for float fishing. A 8 ½ or 9 foot, 5 weight rod with a floating line for dries and a 9 foot, 6 weight rod for fishing streamers or nymphs with a weight forward sink-tip line. Breathable waders with felt soled wading shoes or sandals are recommended. Water temperatures rise only to the low 60’s during the hottest part of the summer; wet wading with shorts and sandals at that time may be comfortable only until dusk, as air temperatures cool rapidly. A warm sweater, fleece or long sleeved shirt are very welcome when the sun goes down. Early and late in the season be sure to bring fleece or long underwear. Biting insects are not a problem on the Kootenai but can be menacing on some of the other smaller streams and lakes. Poloraiod sunglasses, sunscreen and a raincoat are also suggested.
