Welcome

Located in Northwest Montana , and originating on the western slope of the Canadian Rockies, born of crystal clear glacier fed streams, the Kootenai River is Montana 's newest and largest tailwater fishery. It is one of the west's premier dry fly trout rivers.

After having been schooled on Pennsylvania 's classic limestone trout streams Dave Blackburn traveled westward chasing "wild trout tales". He settled on the banks of the Kootenai in 1981 and founded Kootenai Angler as the area's first exclusive fly fishing guide service. Kootenai Angler has grown to include a full service fly shop in downtown Libby, a guide staff of eight, and a 60 acre, riverfront homestead on the Kootenai. The homestead has three custom log cabin vacation rentals overlooking the river along with a turn of the century hand hewed log barn which was refurbished into the bunkhouse unit. There is also a 3000 square-foot restaurant/pub facility which contains a new log dining room addition overlooking a western view of the river. It is the perfect getaway for families looking to de-stress or corporate retreats for up to 14 persons.
